While in Seattle, the SMAHRTeam hosted two summer conferences. The conferences excited, educated, and empowered attendees from diverse fields, including teachers and educators, health care providers, researchers, child health advocates, public health practitioners, and members of the legal, business, technology, and journalism communities.
Community members and researchers gathered to present and discuss many issues relating to social media and adolescent health. Patients and parents from Seattle Children’s Hospital were also invited to contribute to the shared learning experience.
Each day of the conference was focused on different topics such as research methods, hot topics, and community voices. Other sessions focused on cyberbullying, problematic internet use, social media in schools, community organizations and their use of social media to connect to teens, and the applications of social media research.
