Celebrating Women in Science: Q&A With Anna Jolliff

Anna Jolliff - Women in Science

Q: What have you been working on while on SMAHRT?

A: I’ve been working on a research project examining adolescents’ mood and smartphone use, pre-COVID and during COVID. I’ve also worked with Megan to create the Technology & Adolescent Mental Wellness program, which focuses on promoting and disseminating new research as well as fostering community at the intersection of technology and adolescent mental health.

Q: What project are you most proud of and why?

A: I’m proud of TAM’s youth advisory board, and the way we’ve been able to integrate their thoughts and feedback into our work.

Q: What female role models/mentors do you have in your life?

A: All of my research mentors (Megan Moreno now, Nicole Werner while earning my Master’s, Lindsay Kennedy from undergraduate degree at Hendrix College). I also admire the female authors Caroline Knapp and Glennon Doyle.

Q: What is the best advice they have given you?

A: I can’t remember one piece of explicit advice, but they have modeled integrity. And actions are more important than words, anyway!

Q: What do you hope the future is like for women and girls in science?

A: I hope women and girls feel the freedom to stop worrying about whether they “can” or “should” pursue science,  and think more about whether they WANT to!
